Just a quick post to mention that WordCamp New Orleans 2009 has been announced. WordCamp is a class of conferences aimed at developers, users, and enthusiasts of the open source publishing platform WordPress. No date has been set yet for WordCamp New Orleans, but more details will be syndicated on this blog and its iCal feed as they are announced.
This year's ApacheCon will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans. This is a unique opportunity for Louisiana residents to attend a large well-known open source event right in their own backyard. A schedule and registration prices have been posted with more information about the venue and hotel registration coming soon. Local open source enthusiasts are encouraged to be present and encourage future open source events to choose our state as their venue!
Members of the Acadiana Open Source Group and all Acadiana area residents with an interest in open source technologies are invited to attend and optionally be prepared to give technical presentations at The Lafayette CampFiber, a barcamp-style event to be hosted on October 4th at the Travis Technology Center in Lafayette. More information is available on Lafayette CampFiber BarCamp.org page. Registration is free, but limited due to seating limitations, so sign up early!
From BarCamp.org: "Inspired by the community, ad hoc, unconference model of BarCamp, and driven by the desire to spark the imagination of developers to create the next generation of big bandwidth applications, the Lafayette CampFiber will bring together local developers in the Lafayette area to discuss the opportunities being created by the deployment of LUSFiber, soon to be one of the fastest residential networks in the country."
Members of the Acadiana Open Source Group will meet at the Lafayette Public Library at 301 West Congress Street on Saturday June 21 from 2 to 4 PM to demonstrate installation of free operating systems for the public. Anyone in the Acadiana area who has any interest or experience in computers and free software is invited to attend, view the demos, and have questions answered by AOS members. All knowledge levels are welcome. Pamphlets containing more information on open source software and what it offers will be available to the public.
